Educational Visits for Nurseries, Reception, Primary and Secondary Schools

Our Educational Visit package offers a fun and informative day at the zoo, including a classroom-based education session tailored to your students' age group. The Educational Visit package offers students the chance to learn something new or revisit and reinforce topics they've already covered, all within the exciting and dynamic environment of the zoo.

PRICING

Prices are £7.50 per Nursery and Reception pupil, and £8.00 per Primary and Secondary pupil.

We offer free adult places with a ratio of 1:4 for EYFS and Reception, 1:6 for Years 1-11, and 1:2 for SEN groups.

Additional adults outside of the free ratio are charged at £9.60 per person.

 

Self-led Visits for Nurseries, Reception, Primary and Secondary Schools

Our Self-Led Visit option allows school groups to explore the zoo at their own pace, providing a flexible and fun way for students to learn about our animals. This option gives students the freedom to discover the wonders of the animal kingdom independently while still enjoying a safe and enriching experience.

The cost for a self-led visit is £7 per student, with free adult places offered at a ratio of 1:4 for EYFS and Reception, 1:6 for Years 1-11, and 1:2 for SEN groups.

Our Educational Visit package for colleges and universities offers an engaging and insightful experience, combining zoo exploration with a classroom-based education session tailored to higher-level learning. Students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of wildlife, conservation, and environmental studies in a dynamic setting.

The cost per student, including the education session, is £9.50. Free adult places are available with a ratio of 1:10, with additional adults charged at £9.60 each.

 

Self-led visits for Colleges and Universities

Our Self-Led Visit option allows college and university groups to explore the zoo independently, providing a flexible and enriching educational experience. Students can observe our diverse range of species and apply their learning at their own pace.

School FAQs

Q. How do we make a booking? please use the booking form below or email info@Callofthewildzoo.co.uk to start the booking process.

Q. How many children can we bring?

A. You can bring as many children as you wish, dependant on availability that day which our booking staff will advise you on.

Q. Can I pay after our visit?

A. Yes, full payments must be made up to 30 days after the date of your visit date with a 30% deposit made upon initially placing your booking with us.

Q. Some of my students have memberships to the zoo, can they use them for our visit to reduce our cost?

A. Memberships can be used for self-led visits. If you wish to book an education session for your students to participate in, unfortunately membership cards cannot be used.

Q. We don’t want to pay for a coach, can the children’s parents drop them off instead?

A. Yes, children’s parents can drop off the children in the morning of your visit, however please be mindful of other visitors and ensure the children are safe when walking towards the zoo entrance. Please ask parents not to park in areas which are restricted, such as the coned off coach parking area or the disabled parking bays. We recommend teachers ensuring an early arrival to greet the children when they arrive. Please note the zoo does not open until 9:30am.

Q. Is there assigned coach parking?

A. Yes we have a designated coach parking area which is clearly signposted when you arrive into the zoo car park.

Q. Do you have an itinerary for the day?

A. We provide you with the time and location of your education session. We can store your lunches and we can also guide you on which areas to have your lunch. All of this information will be provided for you when you arrive – let us plan your day for you and take the stress out of planning a school trip!

Q. Can we store the children’s packed lunches?

A. We do our best to ensure all schools are able to store their lunches at the zoo. These locations will be provided to you upon your arrival at the zoo.

Q. Do we have a designated lunch spot?

A. We have plenty of picnic areas for you to choose from for your lunch spot. We don’t currently reserve lunch areas however on particularly busy days, we will assign an area and time exclusively for your school.

 

Q. Can I book an education session for my pupils?

A. Yes! We have several topics to choose from for your education sessions and these are included in the admission price for each pupil. Each session is carefully curated to link with the current curriculum and are designed to capture the interest of students of all ages. You can request our education package for more information on topics and descriptions of each topic for primary, secondary and college or university students.

Q: What should we do in case of bad weather?

A: The zoo remains open in most weather conditions, but in the event of severe weather, we will notify you of any closures or schedule changes. In case of rain, we do have some indoor viewing areas as well as a large marquee by our ‘Snack Shack’ to have lunch undercover.

Q: What should students bring for their visit?

A: Students should bring comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a packed lunch (if not purchasing food at the zoo), and any necessary medications. We also recommend bringing water bottles and sunscreen.

Q. What do I do when I arrive at the zoo?

A: When you arrive, ask the bus/coach driver to park in the designated coach parking. Please ask the children to remain seated on the bus. A member of zoo staff will greet you and provide a health and safety briefing for the pupils/students, as well as provide the lead teacher with a short document to complete and confirm numbers. When disembarking the bus, please keep children safe when crossing the car park and heading into the zoo.

Q. We’ve booked an education session, where do we go and what time?

A: The timings of education sessions are subject to change and therefore will be confirmed with the lead teacher upon your arrival to the zoo. Typically, all education sessions are delivered in the morning between 10:00am and 12:30pm unless otherwise requested. These take place either in the Discovery Centre or the ‘Wild Heights’ display arena.

Q: Are there restrooms and first aid facilities available?

A: Yes, we have well-maintained restrooms located at the top of the zoo after leaving the tropical house and a second set of restrooms located next to the ‘Snack Shack’ in the zoo. We have a First Aid room on site and in case of any emergencies or medical concerns, please notify our staff for immediate assistance.

Q: Is the zoo accessible for students with disabilities or special needs?

A: Yes, our zoo is designed to be accessible for all visitors, including those with disabilities or special needs. We have wheelchair ramps, accessible viewing areas, and other accommodations in place to ensure an inclusive experience for everyone.

Q: Can I come to the zoo on a pre-visit to look at facilities and make my own risk assessment?

A: Yes, we allow two teachers from the school to come and conduct a pre-visit. Please get in touch with us and let us know which day you would like to visit. When you arrive for your pre-visit, please have with you your staff IDs with you to show our admissions team. For your convenience we have our own risk assessment for school visits which will be emailed to you together with our booking questionnaire. If you have not received this, please let us know to send another.
